How to record the screen or take a screenshot?


In many cases, attaching a screen-recording video or screenshot when reporting bugs or making suggestions will help us quickly understand what happened so that we can respond to you as soon as possible. You can learn how to record the screen or take a screenshot on Apple devices by this article.

Record the screen on iPhone/iPad/iPod touch

  1. With iOS 14 or later, go to Settings > Control Center, then tap the Add button next to Screen Recording.
  2. Open Control Center on your iPhone or iPod touch, or on your iPad.
  3. Touch and hold the gray Record button, then tap Microphone.
  4. Tap Start Recording, then wait for the three-second countdown.
  5. To stop recording, open Control Center, then tap the red Record button. Or tap the red status bar at the top of your screen and tap Stop.
  6. Go to the Photos app and select your screen recording.

Use the Screenshot toolbar

To view the Screenshot toolbar, press these three keys together: Shift, Command, and 5. You will see onscreen controls for recording the entire screen, recording a selected portion of the screen, or capturing a still image of your screen:

Use QuickTime Player

1. Open QuickTime Player from your Applications folder, then choose File > New Screen Recording from the menu bar. You will then see either the onscreen controls described above or the Screen Recording window described below. 

2. Before starting your recording, you can click the arrow next to the Record button to change the recording settings:

3. To start recording, click the Record button and then take one of these actions:

4. To stop recording, click the Stop button in the menu bar, or press Command-Control-Esc (⌘⌃esc).

5. After you stop recording, QuickTime Player automatically opens the recording. You can now play, edit, or share the recording.

Take a screenshot on iPhone

iPhone with Face ID

  1. Press the side button and the volume up button at the same time.

  1. Quickly release both buttons.
  2. After you take a screenshot, a thumbnail temporarily appears in the lower-left corner of your screen. Tap the thumbnail to open it or swipe left to dismiss it.

iPhone with Touch ID and side button

  1. Press the side button and the Home button at the same time.

  2. Quickly release both buttons.

  1. Press the top button and the Home button at the same time.

  2. Quickly release both buttons.

  3. After you take a screenshot, a thumbnail temporarily appears in the lower-left corner of your screen. Tap the thumbnail to open it or swipe left to dismiss it.

Take a screenshot on Mac

  1. Press and hold these three keys together: Shift(⇧), Command(⌘), and 4.

  2. Drag the crosshair  to select the area of the screen to capture. To move the selection, press and hold Space bar while dragging. To cancel taking the screenshot, press the Esc (Escape) key.

  3. To take the screenshot, release your mouse or trackpad button.

  4. If you see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen, click it to edit the screenshot. Or wait for the screenshot to save to your desktop.
